Privacy Policy

1. What PaperQuire does not collect

PaperQuire is designed with privacy as a core principle:

• No telemetry. The application does not phone home, send crash reports, or transmit usage analytics.
• No cloud storage. Your Markdown files, exported PDFs, and all document content remain on your local filesystem.
• No account required. You can use PaperQuire without creating an account, providing an email address, or signing in.
• No tracking. There are no cookies, fingerprinting, or third-party analytics embedded in the application.

2. Data stored locally

PaperQuire stores the following data on your machine in the standard application data directory:

• Application settings — theme preference, layout options, export presets, and plugin configuration.
• Recent file list — paths to recently opened files for quick access.
• Drafts — auto-saved document content to prevent data loss.
• License key — your license key (if applicable) stored locally for offline validation.
• Plugins — third-party plugin files you have installed.

This data is never transmitted to PaperQuire or any third party. You can delete it at any time by removing the application data folder.

3. License validation

PaperQuire uses an offline license validation system. License keys are cryptographically signed and verified entirely on your device using Ed25519 signatures. No network connection is required, and no license data is sent to any server.

4. Auto-update

PaperQuire checks for application updates by contacting GitHub Releases. This check transmits your current application version and operating system to GitHub's servers. No personal data, document content, or usage information is included in this request. You can disable auto-update in Settings.

5. AI Assist (optional, Pro feature)

The AI Assist feature is bring-your-own-key (BYOK). If you choose to use it:

• You provide your own API key for a third-party AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
• Document content you submit for AI processing is sent directly from your machine to the AI provider you configured. PaperQuire does not proxy, store, or have access to these requests.
• Your API key is stored locally in your application settings and is never transmitted to PaperQuire.
• Please review the privacy policy of your chosen AI provider for how they handle your data.

6. Confluence publishing (optional, Enterprise feature)

If you use the Confluence publishing feature:

• Document content is sent directly from your machine to your Atlassian Confluence instance using the credentials you provide.
• PaperQuire does not proxy this traffic or have access to your Confluence credentials.
• Your Confluence API token is stored locally and encrypted at rest.

7. Third-party plugins

PaperQuire supports a plugin system. Third-party plugins run in a sandboxed context within the application. Plugins do not have access to Node.js APIs, the filesystem, or the network by default. However, we cannot guarantee the behavior of third-party code. Install only plugins from sources you trust.

8. This website

The PaperQuire website (paperquire.com) is a static site. It does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. Download links redirect to GitHub Releases.

9. Children's privacy

PaperQuire is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date. Because PaperQuire is a local-first application with no data collection, changes to this policy are expected to be rare.
