AI Assist Pro
Overview
AI Assist provides AI-powered writing actions directly in the editor. Summarize, rewrite, expand, fix grammar, translate, and more — all without leaving PaperQuire.
Supported Providers
Configure your preferred AI provider in Settings → AI. You bring your own API key — PaperQuire does not include one.

AI Actions
Select text and right-click or use Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+A to open the AI menu. Available actions:
- Summarize — condense selected text into key points
- Expand — elaborate on the selected content
- Rewrite — rephrase in formal, casual, or concise tone
- Fix Grammar & Spelling — correct errors in the selection
- Translate — translate to any language
- Explain — generate a plain-language explanation
- Generate Outline — create a structured outline from the content
- Continue Writing — generate text that follows naturally from the selection
Results appear inline — accept, reject, or edit before inserting.
Custom Prompts
Create your own AI actions with custom system prompts. Go to Settings → AI → Custom Actions. Define a name, prompt template (use {{selection}} for selected text), and optional keyboard shortcut.
Key Storage
API keys are encrypted and stored in your local app data directory. They are never transmitted except directly to the configured AI provider's API endpoint. You can delete keys at any time from Settings → AI.
